The Pig War
On the lower right side of the light house is one of the last remnants of the Pig War. On San Juan Island, there was an American and British camp on opposite side. One day, a pig from the British side found its way and ate a farmer's vegetable. The farmer shot the pig and offered compensation for it. The British refused. After American troops landed, the British send in three naval war ships. A stalemate lasted for over 12 years until Kaiser Wilhelm I decided the fate of the island, and gave it to the US.
